Colorway

Written by Delogue | Oct 21, 2026, 10:36:03 AM

A colorway is one specific colour combination in which a style is offered, such as a navy body with white trims versus the same style in sand. Colorways let a brand sell one design in several colour variations without redesigning it each time.

How a colorway works

A style keeps the same design, pattern and measurements across its colorways, while the colours of its materials and trims change. Each colorway defines which colour is used for each component, from the main fabric to the lining, buttons and zips. Colorways are usually named or coded so that design, buying and suppliers can refer to the same variation without confusion.

Why colorways matter for fashion and lifestyle brands

Colour variations multiply the data a team has to keep right. Every colorway can mean a different fabric colour, a different trim and a different supplier reference, so a mismatch between a colorway and its bill of materials leads to wrong samples and wrong orders. Keeping colorways clear and consistent from design through sampling to production protects both margin and lead times.

Colorways and Delogue

In Delogue, style colours come from a colour library that an admin sets up, and they are combined with items from the item library in the style's item list, so each colour carries its own item colour choices. Colorway PDF prints, a PRO feature, show a style with all of its colour variations in one document for sharing with suppliers. See how Delogue supports design teams.

Key takeaways

  • A colorway is one colour combination in which a style is offered.
  • Every colorway changes the colours of materials and trims, so it has to stay linked to the bill of materials.
  • Delogue links library colours to each style and its item list, and can print all colour variations of a style as a PDF.
